The Spa Town Merano

Merano, the spa town of South Tyrol, is located about 30 km from Bolzano. The city impresses with an Alpine-Mediterranean atmosphere for relaxing all-round holidays where you can admire the beauty of an alpine landscape with a Mediterranean touch.

It might seem strange, but in Merano you can admire palm trees and other tropical plants, while the mountain peaks in the backdrop are still covered in snow until late spring. We recommend an enchanting and romantic walk along the Tappeiner Promenade, a 4 km long walking path, which starts in the city centre of Merano and is also suited for less trained people. Along the path you enjoy a panoramic view of the city and the Adige Valley, and you can discover a huge variety of plants.

Merano and environs offer a great variety of leisure time activities. Choose one of the many outdoor pools or the Termehermal Baths of Merano to flee the heat in summer, or enjoy the fresh mountain air during an easy excursion, a high-alpine hike, a mountain-bike tour or extreme sports.

In Merano you can also participate at the city life. Attend one of the numerous cultural events: the Jazz Festival, the Wine Festival, the event evenings in the Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle, the internationally renowned Botanic Gardens, the canoe races on Passirio River, and the easily reachable surrounding villages where you can admire the beauty of this region.

Last but not least of course, the Christmas Market in winter. As at the other Christmas markets in Bolzano, Bressanone, Vipiteno and Brunico you can enjoy a unique Christmas atmosphere.

Golfers can visit the nearby golf courses of the Lana Golf Club and Val Passiria Golf Club.

Cyclists should try a train + bike tour. With the Venosta train you can reach the single villages in Val Venosta and return to Merano on the beautiful cycling path.
